When I was in Primary 3 at the age of 9, I received my first Enid Blyton Storybook called the Book of Brownies from my father. This book ‘changed’ my life cos it transforms me into a Bookworm. From then on, books, especially fairytale ones from Enid Blyton occupied most of my spare time.
The thing is we didn’t have much spare $ to indulge in books then. I still remember going to bookshops in those old emporiums in Upper Serangoon Road, pesturing my mum to buy me 1 more book. But, I remember seeing her look on her face and stop pestering her. It was a “I would love to buy you 1 more book but we need the $ for food” look.
Also, I didn’t receive much allowance from my parents then. In fact, I remember going to school everyday with only 50 cents in my pocket. In those days, you could still have a small bowl of noodles for 20 cents, I think. So, I saved the remaining 30 cents, so I can add 1 more Enid Blyton story book to my collection. Each book (other than the 1st) reminded me of all my savings and till now, I still have most of the story books! Haha..can you imagine the books being more than 20 years old already!
Of the many books I have with me, the following are my favourites:
Book of the Brownies
The Wishing Chair I & II
The Enchanted Woods
The Adventurous Four
The Twins at St Claire’s
The Naughtiness Girl in School
What about you? Are you also a lover of Enid Blyton books? Do you still have them with you? What are your favourites?
My current collection of handmade necklaces is thus an inspiration from Enid Blyton’s fairytale fairies - magical butterfly fairies. View more photos of these awesome handmade necklaces with my self made fairy pendants in my online shop. Hopefully, they will all fly to their lovely homes soon.
